The Handicraft Communities Support Programme (PACA) focuses on communities that produce traditional handicrafts.
Its objective is to improve the production and marketing conditions of the goods, preserve traditional technologies and valorise the artisans in Brazilian society. It emphasises the traditional knowledge as a distinctive cultural mark of each handicraft centre. PACA activities are based on research work and documentation.
In conjunction with the community, the main needs to improve the production and marketing conditions are identified such as opening direct sales channels in urban centres, adapting production areas, supporting the organisation of associations, seeking the necessary autonomy for producing handicraft.
